for the past week i've been listening to this album again non-stop. what is it that brings you back to an album you once loved? you keep on loving it, but listen to it in fits and bursts when the mood strikes. is there a stronger set of opening songs than the first four songs on this record? something about the way julian casablancas sings makes me really feel strokes songs, an in-your-blood feeling.

today i read this great book:

if you've read georges' invincible summer zines then you know what you're in for, which is smart, charming story-telling amidst beautiful illustrations. i read the whole thing in an hour or two and didn't want to put it down to walk my dog, which i had to do half-way through the book. it's about family secrets and growing up worried and weird and loving animals and life in portland, but that's just the tip of it.
